Delicious Ham Gravy Recipe

  • Author: Doria
  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: About 2 cups

Description

This Delicious Ham Gravy is a rich, savory sauce made from ham drippings, broth, and seasonings, perfect for serving over mashed potatoes, biscuits, or roasted meats. Whether you’re making it for a holiday feast or a comforting Southern-style meal, this easy gravy adds a deep, smoky flavor to any dish. With just a few simple ingredients, you can turn leftover ham juices into a mouthwatering gravy in minutes!

Ingredients

• ¼ cup ham drippings (or butter if drippings are unavailable)

• 2 tbsp all-purpose flour

• 1 ½ cups chicken or ham broth

• ½ cup milk or heavy cream (optional for creamier gravy)

• ½ tsp black pepper

• ¼ tsp garlic powder

• ¼ tsp onion powder

• Salt to taste (if needed)

• ½ tsp Worcestershire sauce (optional for extra depth)

Instructions

1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, warm the ham drippings. If using butter, melt it until slightly bubbly.

2. Sprinkle in the flour and whisk continuously for about 1-2 minutes until it forms a golden-brown roux.

3. Slowly pour in the broth while whisking constantly to prevent lumps from forming.

4. Add black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce, stirring well.

5. Let the gravy simmer for 3-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens.

6. If using milk or heavy cream, stir it in and cook for another 2 minutes for a creamier texture.

7. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed, adding salt if necessary.

8. Remove from heat and serve hot over mashed potatoes, biscuits, or ham slices.

Notes

• If the gravy is too thick, add more broth to reach the desired consistency.

• For extra richness, stir in a tablespoon of butter before serving.

• This gravy pairs beautifully with leftover ham, cornbread, or roasted vegetables.

• Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat gently on the stove with a splash of broth.
